Dear Casual Day Community

The only way to make sense of change is to plunge into it, flow with it … and join the dance. – Alan Watts

We hope that you and your loved ones are keeping safe and well. Since our last communication and the cancellation of most of our national ‘Thank You’ breakfast events, it has now become very clear that our world has been shaken up and changed by the ongoing Covid19 Pandemic. For those of you who missed out on our events, please watch the impact video here of last year’s successful Time To Shine Campaign. We thank you for your ongoing support, enthusiasm and creativity which heartens us and motivates us to continue pushing forward during challenging times such as these.

As we all did our part to flatten the curve by staying safe at home during Levels 5 and 4 of the Lockdown, we waited on government updates in order to deliberate on how Casual Day will need to adapt to the ‘new normal’ in the midst of a both global and national uncertainty.

Working from our homes, our amazing NCPD, APD and Casual Day teams mobilised to organise and deliver food and nappies to centres for Persons with Disabilities, homes and families in various parts of the country and will continue to do so with your help. At the same time, we were working to innovate and plan a way forward for our beloved project.

Persons with Disabilities have been hit the hardest by the crippling health and economic ramifications of the Coronavirus Pandemic, and as we see NGOs nationwide struggle to keep their doors open in order to support the most vulnerable in society, we realise the need to plan carefully and to take fast, deliberate action. We are happy to announce that we have put some concrete plans in motion and that Casual Day will go ahead this year, with a date change to the 3rd of December 2020 (International Day of Persons with Disabilities) in order to cushion the impacts of the pandemic. Casual Day 2020 will be different, but we are determined that it WILL NOT be any less impactful. We would like to share some of our plans with you below.

Exciting 2020 Theme & Disney is on Board!

As a prominent rights-based civil society network the NCPD has learnt that nothing we do on our own can ever be as valuable as the things we do together. And as such we are thrilled to announce this year’s wonderful new theme: The Casual Day Theme for 2020 is…SIDE BY SIDE for Equality.

We’re also extremely excited to announce that this year Casual Day will be standing SIDE BY SIDE with MICKEY & FRIENDS! You heard right! This year Disney is on board! Wondering how to dress? This year, twinning is winning (more theme info soon) and don’t forget to order your Casual Day goodies (see below).

STICKERS – R20 for 2020!

From 2020, the Casual Day Sticker donation will be R20 in order to get more funds into the pockets of our beneficiaries. Indeed, this year our call to action is to lessen the impact of Covid-19 on our 400+ participating NGO organisations, Special Schools and other Beneficiaries. The need is great and we must do all we can.
