NCPPDSA: Wheelchairs for Africa

The Impact of Casual Day in your Beneficiary Community.

Your R10 in action! Featured beneficiary: NCPPDSA

More than 100 children received the gift of mobility last year, thanks to funds raised through the Casual Day campaign.

The National Council for Persons with Physical Disabilities in SA (NCPPDSA) helped to change the lives of children from Limpopo to the Eastern Cape by securing and facilitating the donation of 80 wheelchairs for children with disabilities in special schools.

A group of children with severe disabilities were the recipients of specialized, custom-designed mobility and seating devices (buggies).

In addition, two corporate donations were secured for the manufacturing of a custom-made wheelchair for an eight-year-old girl from Vosloorus, profoundly changing her life and that of her mother. Correct seating has increased her level of mobility and functional ability – and her mother is now able to move her around with greater ease.

NCPPDSA’s Nappy Run campaign also obtained 25 000 nappies for children with disabilities from the public and corporate sector. Nappy Run is an annual NCPPDSA campaign to raise public awareness about children with disabilities and to collect nappies for them.

Donated nappies from the Nappy Run campaign have been and still are being donated to care centres for children with disabilities in rural and poverty stricken communities throughout the country.
